JSC “Vostochny Port” handled 6 million tons of coal in Q1 2018

JSC “Vostochny Port”, the largest Russian specialized port with hi-tech coal transshipment  and a member of coal port holding “Managing Port Company”, transshipped its 6.01 millionth ton of export premium coal to exceed the figure of the similar period 2017 (5.7 mln tons) by 5%.


From January to March this year, “Vostochny Port” discharged 78.4 thousand open railcars with coal. The share of the innovative open railcars with the increased capacity was 76.1% (59.7 thousand units), which is 17.4 percentage points above the 2017 performance in the similar period (a 58.7% increase against 47.3 thousand units).


During Q1, 147 bulkers of different capacity were handled at the JSC “Vostochny Port” berths, including 45 (31%) of panamax and 14 (9.5%) capsized vessels. The largest cargo capacity vessel was a 295 m long capesize FPMC B Forever with the deadweight more than 180 thousand tons. She took on board 152.7 thousand tons of coal and proceeded for Taiwan. For comparison, during Q1 2017 the stevedore handled 138 vessels including 49 (35.5%) panamax and 12 (8.7%) capsized bulkers.


On March 19, 2018 “Vostochny Port” achieved a record daily discharge rate for the winter season – 1,096 open railcars – to exceed the JSC “Russian Railway” standard rate (1,070 open railcars) and its own record set on March 19, 2017 (1,060 open railcars).


In the first three month of 2018, coal was forwarded to South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar. South Korea became a leader with a 35.4% share in the total imports.
