“VOSTOCHNY PORT” AND TSURUGA PORT HAVE CELEBRATED THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR TWINNING

JSC “Vostochny port” and Japanese port Tsuruga celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the town twinning day. Mr. Futikami Takanobu, Mayor of the Japanese city, and Mr. Hara Yukio, Chairman of Tsuruga city assembly, paid an official visit to “Vostochny Port” during their working trip to Nakhodka on the occasion of the 35th Anniversary of the twinning arrangements between the two cities.
The Agreement on Establishment of Friendly Relations between Tsuruga Port in Japan and Vostochny Port in the USSR was signed on September 7th, 1977. The Agreement states, in particular, that “Both Parties, being twin cities, shall effect necessary cooperation, and for this purpose conduct exchange of expert opinions, information exchange and exchange in delegations for familiarization with the port development. Both ports will work for enhancement of the friendly relations in different spheres of activity including culture, education and sports”. Five years later, in 1982, Nakhodka and Tsuruga signed a Sister-City Arrangement.
The delegation from the Land of the Rising Sun visited the observation deck of the Phase 3 of the Coal Handling Terminal and placed greater focus on the modern ecofriendly equipment that is operated in the existing facility and is going to be used in the one under construction. The guests had a meeting with the port administration and discussed prospects of further promotion of trade and economic cooperation.
“We are maintaining mutual relations between Tsuruga and “Vostochny port” on a high level. We are sure there is a certain prospect for the revival of cooperative efforts worldwide. Today, Japanese Government is primed for promotion and strengthening of relations with the Russian Federation. Tsuruga, a long-term partner of Russia, takes part in the process. We have an electric power plant in our city, which consumes large amounts of coal. We are considering an option for the fuel delivery via “Vostochny Port”. This can inject new dynamism into the dialog between our two cities”, noted Mr. Takanobu.
Let’s remind that international cooperation between Russia and Japan is paid special attention in the implementation of the Far East largest transport investment project for the construction of the Phase 3 of the Coal Handling Terminal. Thus, in early September, in the frames on the 3rd Eastern Economic Forum, “Managing Port Company, LLC”, JSC “Vostochny Port” and “Marubeni Corporation” (Japan) signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding for the assembly of specialized equipment for the new terminal, and commissioning works. The Parties agreed on joint introduction of advanced technology in the sphere of environmental safety of the port operations in pursuance of previously signed contracts to the total value of US$130 million.
